Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science, Shirwal was established in 1988 under the auspices of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, to cater the needs of people from Western Maharashtra region. Consequent upon the formation of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University at Nagpur, the institute was transferred under its control in the year 2000. The institute represents the Western Maharashtra region of the state which is relatively rich in animal husbandry activities, thus has a great scope for animal husbandry and veterinary science.

Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science, Shirwal is one of the premier institutes of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur and is committed to extend its services in the area of animal husbandry and veterinary science for the benefit of almost 10 districts of western and northern parts of Maharashtra state.
