The Department of Poultry Science was established in the Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science, Shirval Dist. Satara since 1993 situated in the old college campus with an infrastructure of a poultry museum, laboratory, farmers training cum practical hall. The post-graduate program is started in the year 2016. In addition, the department has separate poultry farm premises including deep litter broiler farm, layer cage unit, deep litter and semi-intensive turkey unit, and feed mill unit. The department is involved in teaching, research, and extension activities with a very good rapport with the poultry industry. The poultry science curriculum looks forward catering the needs of teaching, research, and extension activities for the transformation and development of the poultry industry in Western Maharashtra.
The Department of Poultry Science has implemented 2 agency funded costing 51.47 lakh and 24 private agency-sponsored research trials by Private National and Multinational companies costing Rs. 69.33 lakh from the year 2009. The Department has performed significant research in poultry with 10 recommendations for farmers, 40 research articles publications.
